(L, D) Day 2 - Visit Hell Fire Pass Memorial Burma-Thailand Railway. Continue to an Elephant Camp via bamboo raft. At the camp, you'll take an elephant ride through the jungle. Take a train ride on the Death Railway before returning to Bangkok. Price: $150 - $170 depending on season MOUNTAIN TREK & HILLTRIBE EXPERIENCE Day 1 - Depart Chiang Mai for Lisu Lodge. Walk the jungle trails to a remote Hmong tribal village. Continue walking to the top of the mountain to the Red Lahu tribal village. Your walk continues along the mountain ridge for spectacular views of the Mae Taeng district and Chiang Mai town in the distance. Overnight at Lahu Outpost, modeled after a typical Lahu house. (L, D) Day 2 - This morning you'll walk down a steep jungle path past Huay Sadhan Waterfall. Climb aboard your elephant and continue to the river where you'll go rafting. Continue by foot to Ton Lung temple and have tea with Lisu Sharman to learn about Lisu traditions. Evening dance performance at Lisu Lodge where you'll spend the night. (B) Day 3 - Choose between a bike tour, steambath or massage or ox cart ride through farmlands. After lunch return by car to Chiang Mai. (B, L) Price: $315 - $365 depending upon season BEACH & RAINFOREST NATURE SAFARI Day 1 - Start this tour from Phuket, Khao Lak or Krabi. Travel to Phang Nga province through small rural villages and rubber and oil plantations. Explore the mangrove forest via outboard dinghy or self paddle canoes. Then board a Burmese junk which will take you to a deserted beach for swimming, canoeing or relaxing. In the late afternoon transfer to Khao Sok for an overnight at Elephant Hills safari tents. (L, D) Day 2 - Morning visit tothe elephant camp in the jungle. In the afternoon canoe down the Sok River passing limestone mountains and cliffs with exotic vegetation. This world has barely changed in thousands of years. Return to Elephant Hills for your overnight tented accommodations. (B, L, D) Day 3 - Explore the jungle on foot. The rainforest boasts exotic plants, huge trees, orchids and more. In the afternoon transfer to Phuket. (B, L) Price: $380 - $475 depending upon season MEKHALA LEGENDARY CRUISE Day 1 - At the pier in Bangkok board the Legendary River Cruiser Mekhala and cruise up the Chao Phraya River, passing the Grand Palace and Temple of Dawn. Just after dark the Mekhala will dock at Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple in a rural village. A candlelight dinner will be served on deck. Acommodations on board. (D) Day 2 - Depart for Bang Pa where you'll have a guided tour of the Summer Palace. Continue by long-tailed boat to the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. After visiting the ruins you'll return to Bangkok by minibus. (B, L) Price: $320 - $400 depending upon season MEKHALA LEGENDARY CRUISE Day 1 - Early morning transfer via minibus to Ayutthaya. Upon arrival you'll visit the ruins of this ancient capital. Continue, via long-tailed boat, to Bang Pa to explore the Summer Palace. Board the Mekhala and cruise down the Chao Phraya River to Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple in a rural village. A candlelight dinner will be served on deck. Accommodations on board. (L, D) Day 2 - Cruise downstream to Bangkok, passing the Grand Palace and Temple of Dawn. (B) Prices: SUWAN MACHA EXOTIC CRUISE PHUKET Day 1 - Transfer from Phuket hotels to the pier and board the Suwan Macha. Cruise through Phang Nga Bay and tour James Bong island. After lunch return to Phuket via high-speed ferry. (B, L) SUWAN MACHA EXOTIC CRUISE SAMUI Day 1 - Afternoon transfer from Koh Samui hotels to the pier. Cruise by Koh Samui past Lamai Beach and visit Grandfather and Grandmother Rock. At sunset you'll anchor at Koh Taen Island. Dinner and accommodations on board. (D) Day 2 - Set sail for Ang Thong National Park. Arrive at Koh Paluai where you can swim, sunbathe and kayak at deserted beaches. Accommodations on board. Day 3 - Tour Ang Thong archipelago, including Koh Mae Ko with Talae Nai, a closed lagoon connected to the sea by an underwater cave. Later you can snorkel and kayak under the rocky arch at Koh Sam Sao. Cruise to Koh Tong Thaeng before sunset. Accommodations on board. (B, L, D) Day 4 - Transfer to the Seatran Ferry. Price: $580 The first inland cruise in Thailand, the RV River Kwai is a newly built colonial style river cruiser operating upstream Monday to Thursday and downstream Thursday to Sunday. Day 1 - Depart Bangkok by coach to Kanchanaburi. Along the way you'll stop at Phra Pathom Chedi, Khao Noi Cave Temple and Tiger Cave Temple. Visit the JEATH War Museum before boarding the RV River Kwai. In the afternoon visit Wat Tham Khaopoon before cruising to Wang Pia Moo Bridge. Accommodations on board. Day 2 - Cruise up the Kwai Noi River to Prasat Muang Singh historical park with its Khmer architecture. Continue by road to Tha Kilen train station where you'll board a train going over the long wooden viaduct. Stop at Krasae Cave. This cruise does not operate in June. Day 1 - Depart the pier in Luang Prabang, Laos, in the early morning and cruise to Pakbeng. On the way to Pak Ou village a stop will be made to observe the traditional process of making rice alcohol. Then visit Tam Ting "caves of a thousand Buddhas." Continue along the river and arrive in Pakbeng before sunset. Accommodations at the LuangSay Lodge. Day 2 - There's time for an optional walk to Pakbeng market where villagers from the surrounding area exchange their goods. Cruise along the Mekong with stops along the way to observe rural life along the river. Arrive at Houeisay pier in Thailand in the late afternoon. (B, L) Price: $240 - $365 depending upon season LUANGSAY CRUISE ON THE MEKONG RIVER Downstream departures are on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays except in May which operate on Mondays and Fridays only. This cruise does not operate in June. Day 1 - Depart HoueiSay pier in the morning and cruise along the Mekong to Pakbeng. Along the way you'll stop to observe rural life along the river. Arrive in Pakbeng before sunset. Accommodations at the LuangSay Lodge. (L, D) Day 2 - There's time for an optional walk to Pakbeng market where villagers from the surrounding area exchange their goods. This morning cruise to a Hmong village. After lunch cruise to Pak Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River. Visit Tam Ting "caves of a thousand Buddhas." A stop will be made to observe the traditional process of making rice alcohol, before arriving in Luang Prabang.
