RIVER KWAI JUNGLE RAFTS

Along the way you'll pass through an area of unspoiled mountainous jungle scenery. In the afternoon take a boat ride downstream to the pier and continue to Hell Fire Pass Memorial. HIN TOK RIVER CAMP

Day 1 - Early departure from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. Vist the World War II Museum, Allied Cemetery and famous River Kwai Bridge. Walk the original rail line at Hell Fire Pass. Later choose to relax at camp, mountain bike, basket weave with villagers or swim in the rock pool. Overnight at the luxury tented Hin Tok River Camp. (L, D)

Day 2 - Walk or bike to the nearby temple to give food to monks. Take a long-tailed boat to the River Kwai jungle rafts and visit an ethnic Mon tribal village. Take a train ride on the Death Railway before returning to Bangkok. (B, L)

THAI WELLNESS EXPERIENCE

Day 1 - Tramsfer from your hotel in Bangkok to the Rose Garden Riverside Hotel. Mid-afternoon travel by row boat to the organic farm to learn about growing vegetables, fruits and herbs via traditional methods, without chemicals. Sample herbal teas, fruits and freshly picked coconuts. Pick herbs and vegetables for your cooking class where you'll cook traditional dishes. (D)

Day 2 - This morning choose from a variety of Living the Thai Culture workshops. There are art and craft workshops including weaving, pottery, fruit carving, garland making and umbrella painting. This afternoon visit the Arusaya Spa where you'll learn to make herbal compresses with the "Nuad Rajasamnak" method. (B)

Day 3 - Your morning herbal product workshop teaches about homemade herbal products. Learn to make an herbal inhaler. Return to Bangkok in the mid-afternoon. (B)

JUNGLE SAFARI

Day 1- Depart Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani or Khao Lak and transfer to Khao Sok. Upon arrival at the elephant camp, you'll learn about the elephant conservation project. You'll then take an elephant trek in the jungle. After lunch you'll take a jungle canoe trip down the Sok River. Overnight in a luxury safari tent with private facilities. (L, D)

Day 2 - Today you'll explore the ecology of the rainforest by foot. Return to Elephant Hills in the afternoon, before transferring out. (B, L)

ELEPHANT LIFE EXPERIENCE

This unique half-day excursion takes you to the Elephant Life Experience site. After being greeted by the staff, you'll change into your mahout's (elephant keeper's) outfit, which you can take home. Your basic mahout training course includes easy commands, learning to ride on the back of your elephant, or elephant trekking, experiencing the elephants' artistic skill in painting and participating with the elephant artists to create your own masterpiece which you can take home. A picnic basket and high tea will be provided. Prior to returning to Chiang Mai, you'll have a choice of rafting along the Mae Taeng River, or taking refreshment at the main lodge.

ELEPHANT OWNER FOR A DAY

This special full day excursion begins with an early transfer from Chiang Mai to the Patara Elephant Farm for a briefing on the history of domestic elephants in Thailand. After donning your mahout training outfit you'll prepare for the training which includes hiking to find the elephant in the bush, learning about elephant farm management and Patara's breeding program, learning how to approach and be near elephants, learning how to observe elephant temperament, daily health care for elephants, pregnancy tests and caring for mothers with small babies, learning about elephant skin care and how to get on the neck of the elephant using different techniques. You'll feed the elephants and will learn basic riding skills and spoken commands, while on elephant back. You'll ride bareback to a local temple and learn about Buddhism and the beliefs of the Thai people, as related to the elephant. You'll then venture to a nearby waterfall for a picnic lunch and will go into the water with your elephant before riding back to the farm for the evening feeding. Return to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

MOUNTAIN TREK & HILLTRIBE EXPERIENCE

Day 1 - Depart Chiang Mai for Lisu Lodge. Walk the jungle trails to a remote Hmong tribal village. Continue walking to the top of the mountain to the Red Lahu tribal village. Your walk continues along the mountain ridge for spectacular views of the Mae Taeng district and Chiang Mai town in the distance. Overnight at Lahu Outpost, modeled after a typical Lahu house. Day 2 - This morning you'll walk down a steep jungle path past Huay Sadhan Waterfall. Climb aboard your elephant and continue to the river where you'll go rafting. Continue by foot to Ton Lung temple and have tea with Lisu Sharman to learn about Lisu traditions. Evening dance performance at Lisu Lodge where you'll spend the night. (B)

Day 3 - Choose between a bike tour, steambath or massage or ox cart ride through farmlands. After lunch return by car to Chiang Mai. (B, L)

LISU LODGE EXPERIENCE

Day 1 - Early morning depart Chiang Mai and transfer to Lisu Lodge. Upon arrival you'll walk from the Ton Lung temple to the Lisu village where you'll visit the herb garden and have tea at the village shaman's house. The shaman will talk to you about his life, beliefs, healing rituals and Lisu traditions. Later you'll visit the village cultural center and either take a bike tour or ox-cart ride around the area, or you can choose a steam bath or massage instead. Dinner at the lodge includes a Lisu dance show. Overnight at the lodge. Your room has private facilities. (L, D)

CHIANG MAIL HILLTRIBE TREKKING
3DAYS / 2NIGHTS

Day 1 - Depart from Chiang Mai by truck with a stop at Mae Malai local market. Continue to the waterfall for lunch and swimming. Then drive to Huay Nam Dung National Park to visit a Shan village. Walk through the jungle to a Karen hilltribe village where you'll spend the night in a dormitory room. (L, D)

Day 2 - This morning you'll trek to the elephant camp. Following a meal at the camp you'll ride through the forest to a Lahu hilltribe village for your overnight stay in a dormitory room. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - After breakfast in the forest you'll travel via bamboo raft to a Karen hilltribe village. Your raft trip continues, passing numerous rapids, to a Shan village where you'll arrive in time for lunch. In the late afternoon you'll transfer back to Chiang Mai via truck. (B, L)

GINGERBREAD HOMESTAY
2DAYS / 1NIGHT

Day 1 - Travel outside Chiang Mai to the village of Sankampaeng to your homestay. Spend the day in the village exploring by bicycle, visiting a local temple and an organic vegetable farm. Overnight at Gingerbread Homestay. (D)

Day 2 - Wake up early, with the rest of the household. Spend the morning visiting points of interest in the village or just enjoying the rural scenery. Return to Chiang Mai in the afternoon. (B)

ELEPHANT NATURE PARK

Day 1 - This morning you'll travel to the Elephant Nature Park following a stop at a local market in Chiang Mai where you'll help the Park staff load food into trucks for the Park elephants. Upon arrival at the Park you'll have an orientation and will then learn how to properly bathe an elephant, before going into the river to test your skills. The Park has a viewing platform so photo ops are excellent. Accommdation in a bamboo room at the Nature Park. Facilities are on a share basis. (L, D)

Day 2 - This morning you can go on an elephant walk and can participate in bathing and feeding the elephants. Depart for Chiang Mai in the late afternoon. (B, L)

BEACH & RAINFOREST NATURE SAFARI

Day 1 - Start this tour from Phuket, Khao Lak or Krabi. Travel to Phang Nga province through small rural villages and rubber and oil plantations. Explore the mangrove forest via outboard dinghy or self paddle canoes. Then board a Burmese junk which will take you to a deserted beach for swimming, canoeing or relaxing. In the late afternoon transfer to Khao Sok for an overnight at Elephant Hills safari tents. (L, D)

Day 2 - Morning visit to the elephant camp in the jungle. In the afternoon canoe down the Sok River passing limestone mountains and cliffs with exotic vegetation. This world has barely changed in thousands of years. Return to Elephant Hills for your overnight tented accommodations. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - Explore the jungle on foot. The rainforest boasts exotic plants, huge trees, orchids and more. In the afternoon transfer to Phuket. (B, L)

MEKHALA LEGENDARY CRUISE
Upstream

Day 1 - At the pier in Bangkok board the Legendary River Cruiser Mekhala and cruise up the Chao Phraya River, passing the Grand Palace and Temple of Dawn. Just after dark the Mekhala will dock at Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple in a rural village. A candlelight dinner will be served on deck. Acommodations on board. (D)

Day 2 - Depart for Bang Pa where you'll have a guided tour of the Summer Palace. Continue by long-tailed boat to the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. After visiting the ruins you'll return to Bangkok by minibus. (B, L)

SUWAN MACHA EXOTIC CRUISE PHUKET

Day 1 - Transfer from Phuket hotels to the pier and board the Suwan Macha. Cruise through Phang Nga Bay and tour James Bond island. Dinner is served on deck. Accommodations on board. (D)

Day 2 - Visit the Sea Gypsy village and ride through the mangroves and hidden lagoons. The afternoon is in the waters near Krabi, with deserted white sand beaches. Accommodations on board. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - Cruise the islands between Krabi and Phi Phi. Snorkel, swim and sunbathe before arriving at Phi Phi Island. Accommodations on board. (B, L, D)

RV RIVER KWAI CRUISE
Upstream

The first inland cruise in Thailand, the RV River Kwai is a newly built colonial style river cruiser operating upstream Monday to Thursday and downstream Thursday to Sunday.

Day 1 - Depart Bangkok by coach to Kanchanaburi. Along the way you'll stop at Phra Pathom Chedi, Khao Noi Cave Temple and Tiger Cave Temple. Visit the JEATH War Museum before boarding the RV River Kwai. In the afternoon visit Wat Tham Khaopoon before cruising to Wang Pia Moo Bridge. Accommodations on board.

Day 2 - Cruise up the Kwai Noi River to Prasat Muang Singh historical park with its Khmer architecture. Continue by road to Tha Kilen train station where you'll board a train going over the long wooden viaduct. Stop at Krasae Cave. Day 3 - Walk uphill to Kaeng Lava Cave. Later cruise to Ban Haad Ngiu and continue by coach to Hell Fire Pass. Rejoin the boat at Kaeng Pa Lorm. Afternoon at leisure on board. Accommodations on board. (B, L, D)

RV RIVER KWAI CRUISE
Downstream

LUANGSAY CRUISE ON THE MEKONG RIVER
Upstream - Laos to Thailand

Upstream departures are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays except in May which operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. This cruise does not operate in June.

Day 1 - Depart the pier in Luang Prabang, Laos, in the early morning and cruise to Pakbeng. On the way to Pak Ou village a stop will be made to observe the traditional process of making rice alcohol. Then visit Tam Ting "caves of a thousand Buddhas." Continue along the river and arrive in Pakbeng before sunset. Accommodations at the LuangSay Lodge. (L, D)

Day 2 - There's time for an optional walk to Pakbeng market where villagers from the surrounding area exchange their goods. Cruise along the Mekong with stops along the way to observe rural life along the river. Arrive at Houeisay pier in Thailand in the late afternoon. (B, L)

LUANGSAY CRUISE ON THE MEKONG RIVER
Downstream - Thailand to Laos

Downstream departures are on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays except in May which operate on Mondays and Fridays only. This cruise does not operate in June.

Day 1 - Depart HoueiSay pier in the morning and cruise along the Mekong to Pakbeng. Along the way you'll stop to observe rural life along the river. Arrive in Pakbeng before sunset. Accommodations at the LuangSay Lodge. (L, D)

Day 2 - There's time for an optional walk to Pakbeng market where villagers from the surrounding area exchange their goods. This morning cruise to a Hmong village. After lunch cruise to Pak Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River. Visit Tam Ting "caves of a thousand Buddhas." LUANGSAY CRUISE ON THE MEKONG & KAMU LODGES
Upstream - Laos to Thailand

Day 1 - Depart Luang Prabang, Laos, to Kamu Village, with a stop along the way at Tam Ting "Cave of Thousand Buddhas." Arrive at Kamu Lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon you have a choice of activities including rice planting and harvesting, gold panning (seasonal), jungle walks, fishing or trekking through the forest to waterfalls. Overnight at Kamu Lodge. (L, D)

Day 2- Visit the village of Kamu before boarding your boat. Lunch will be on board. Arrive at Pakbeng before sunset. Dinner will be on the terrace of your hotel, overlooking the Mekong River. Overnight at LuangSay Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 3 - After breakfast take an optional walk to the Pakbeng market, where people from surroudning villages sell their goods. Continue your cruise, with a stop en route to see ethnic minority villages, arriving at Houei Say pier in the late afternoon. (B, L)

Prices for short duration SIC packages or cruises are based upon the purchase of additional trip components and/or the combination of several tours.
